The priming minimises the natural yellowing process of the wood and enhances the natural grain of the wood producing a white wash finish. Hvid sæbe white soap lud and white oil are three different things. After the lye process has been completed the floors are mopped with a mixture of soap flakes hot water. Lye is a caustic type substance used to remove the orange hue from timber particularly flooring.

They need to be freshly sanded for it to give it an even look. Our engineered douglas fir flooring is supplied unfinished bare sanded floorboards to be stained finished once installed. After further sanding a white tinted wood soap is applied which has an oily finish and acts as a protective sealant. Without the use of lye the strong orange tints in the timber tend to come through whatever white tint you put on the wood at a later stage particularly on some pines that have resinous streaks in them. Softwood lye may not be used on hardwood. All i will say is that a slight mishap occurred when experiencing an itchy nose as i used the lye on my new oak kitchen. Typically wood lye is used on sanded boards to lighten them and remove warm tones.
