Athlunkard boat club was founded in 1898 and our clubhouse building was completed in 1926. An online fundraising campaign has been established to help cover the 100 000 costs of installing a new roof on limerick boat club which was destroyed by storm darwin in february 2014. Due to the storm they lost their roof and the limerick boat club fundraiser has been striving to put a new roof on their beloved building ever since. Founded in 1870 limerick boat club is one of the oldest boat clubs in ireland.

After the terrible storm darwin back in 2014 fundraising for limerick boat club which has been a part of limerick since its founding in 1870 has been essential. Thanks to a significant contribution from the jp mcmanus benevolent fund the limerick boat club can get back in full action with a new boathouse roof. It is one of the oldest sporting clubs in limerick and is affiliated to rowing ireland. On 12 february 2014 the club achieved worldwide notoriety when the roof was peeled off the boat house in a violent storm.
